Illustrations as part of UX Strategy

On-boarding is a huge area of user experience design. In general minimal onboarding should be the number 1 priority for a UX’er - i.e. we shouldn’t need to explicitly tell the user what they need to do in each steps but there can be times when complex ideas need communicating.

This is where illustration can be used to communicate abstract ideas and to nudge the user into doing something without explicitly telling them what to do.

Sign up screens, quick tutorials and nudging a user to start an action can all be enhanced by Illustration. It is quick (the below was turned out in less than a day) and can be quickly altered when doing user testing. It fits into a brand easily as colours can be directly controlled to enhance the brand.

Below are some examples with headings to create a loose brief. if you are interested in illustration or a general UX /Product overhaul then get in touch by email or fill out the form below.

UX Design - Case Study Collection

Rounding up last years client base from a web / app standpoint and the various aspects of UX undertaken. 2019 saw Guffaw work across several industries to ship apps, responsive web and games.

These were delivery + logistics (customer facing and driver facing) For Yodel with the design, user test and delivery of a HHT app which has seen positive reception, A Client Portal which allows Yodel’s client base to login, track parcels, raise queries and book returns.

Guffaw also worked with Rock On Ruby a fashion retailer to shift their site which was heavily desktop orientated to mobile web. This required design, test and managing the project with award winning agency Chilliapple. The Site re-launched in November 2019 and saw an uptick in sales.

Carrying on the e-commerce trend Guffaw worked alongside Shopit the new kids on the block in e-commerce giving shopify and magento a run for their money.

Guffaw also delivered workshops for The Prince’s Trust and St Helens College.

3 clients Guffaw Digital has recently worked with. Guffaw has worked with clients such as Yodel, Rock on Ruby, The Prince's Trust, Shopit and White hot Games Limited.

Work in Progress: Non Profit idea around donations and tracking where they go

I wanted to see if I could use technology as a way to increase donations by sharing the narrative on the item the user donates. A lot of the time donations are seen as another way of throwing things away. What if you saw where all of your items end up?

You’d probably donate more…

Self Directed Work: Nudging more efficient travel modes through app design

Leading up to the christmas break as client work dies down it’s often good to pursue own projects. While I don’t have PO’s, Business Owners, Producers, Clients and analytics to satisfy I can still think through concepts that could be prototyped and developed further.

This example is around using an app to nudge users towards booking more efficient flights by calculating CO2 savings from their choices. Users can also plan a journey via rail and have suggested hotels which would be near city hubs.

A further development of the idea would be to allow third parties to offer rewards off the back of carbon saved.

See the prototype here and feel free to submit any feedback you may have. I’ll then naturally incorporate that into any further prototyping.
